Listed Building Office Interior Design
Listed buildings can make stunning offices, remembered by all, but can also be restrictive, inflexible and impractical. Designing office spaces within a listed building should always start with English Heritage to understand what is, and what isn’t, possible. It’s also worth remembering that listed building consent for any interior changes will take 8 weeks.
A typical disadvantage of a listed building will be the greater structural expansion and movement as the weather changes. A winter floor to ceiling height, or angle of floor to walls, may not be the same in summer. Fitted furniture and glazed partitions must have a tolerance within their construction, or risk problems with fit and finish at the very least.
This page will explain in more detail some of the practical aspects to consider, some design considerations and suggestions. These images show some recent designs visuals for a listed office building.
