Whether you work in an office or at home, we all need an area to call our own when it comes to working, it’s important to ensure that this space is a pleasant and organised place where we feel productive and focused.
Sometimes there’s nothing more distracting than piles of clutter and coffee stains, take a look at our tips to keep your office space organised, keeping it neat and clean with minimal effort. Here at Fusion Office Design, we have years of experience when it comes to office design and office fit-outs, along with keeping your office clean and tidy.
Organise first, clean second
There’s no point in having a sparkling clean office, to then move dusty items around and cover your newly clean desk. Decide what items you want to throw away, recycle or donate, then remove all of these items from your office before you tackle the grime.
Ditch your paperwork
Everyone is guilty of having a constant pile of papers that need sorting through on our desk or somewhere else in our office. Invoices, letters or receipts that all need to be filed, the paperwork builds up quickly and it’s easy to keep putting it off.
To start with, sort your papers into categories and bin anything that’s no longer relevant, then file these into labelled folders, so they’re easily accessible when you need them.
Try to keep on top of future paper pile ups by creating an inbox which you sort through regularly, say once a week. To try and save even more space, scan all of your papers and just keep the digital copies, you can print out anything that you need at a later date.
Organisation to help save time
Items that you regularly use, like paper, sticky notes, pens etc, these should be in easy reach of your desk chair, there’s no point spending time looking for them multiple times a day.
Items that you use less often can also be stored away in cupboards, drawers, containers or shelves. Whether it’s computer accessories or a printer, these can be hidden away, professional printer companies can provide total solutions and integrate technology into your office in a way which is clean and tidy. Another thing that can make your office look messy is technology cables hanging around, they also can be a hazard when it comes to trips and falls. Cable tidies will help you to keep them neat and out of the way. Make a list of where you’ve stored these items as you organise them, this will allow you to refer to them and save even more time when you next need to search for something.
Recycle and organise at the same time
There’s no need to buy expensive containers, you can use many household items to help organise the things in your office.
From old toilet paper rolls to organising and storing unused cables, simply thread the cables through the middle of the tube and keep wrapping them around. They can also be easily stacked on top of each other in maybe an old drawer.
Keep on top of the cleaning
It’s all too easy for us to forget to clean our offices and desks, but given how much time we spend in this spot, it’s particularly important to keep it spick and span.
From spending five minutes at the end of each day wiping down your desk with antibacterial wipes, also remember to get underneath all of your equipment.
Once a week do a slightly more thorough clean, include your mouse and keyboard as these can be covered in germs from being in contact with your hands to much.
Make sure that you follow these top tips to get your office space neat, tidy and clean, the nicer your office space, the easier it will be to spend time there and maybe be more productive in the process, with just a bit of organisation and a few cleaning tricks you’ll be running the world from your desk chair in no time.
